Information for New Clients

  • I like to check in with clients before we begin table work to hear about any changes you’ve observed since our last session. If this is your first appointment with me, we’ll go over your personal history form and talk a bit about the session that day.

I’ll then observe your walking movement and your alignment. Your gait (walking pattern) helps to inform me of changes since our last appointment, restrictions and holding patterns we can address in the day’s session.

We’ll then transition to table work for about an hour. My table is slightly larger than a regular massage table, the room is heated in the winter and I have extra sheets and blankets if you get cold. During the session you will be moving on and off the table.

I will work on both sides of your body, though you may notice the work is slightly different side to side. Although we strive for an ideal of symmetry, the reality is most of us use our bodies unsymmetrically, and therefore our sense of pain and strain may be unbalanced as well.

I will encourage your participation throughout the session, inviting you to find more connection to your breath, calling for subtle movements and engaging your awareness through your senses. Your feedback is helpful to ensure I’m working at a depth and pace that feels good.

Sessions often draw to conclusion with standing and/or seated work to help integrate your body into the vertical plane. At times I will offer suggestions for self-care or ways to interweave new felt experience into your home routine.

  • Session length:

    Sessions are generally 75-90 minutes.

Each session is designed according to your bodily needs. Depending on the physical terrain we are exploring that day, 75 minutes might be enough, but we schedule for 90 minutes to leave room for the unexpected and time for integration. It is not uncommon to get off the table and feel parts of your body moving in new and surprising ways. Leaving extra time gives us the chance to help create some stability in your system before you walk out of the office.

I highly encourage you to give yourself extra time after the session so your body can continue to metabolize and integrate the work (go for a walk, be still, journal, go for a soak, etc.)

    Session frequency:

Structural Integration sessions invite the body into a process that builds on itself over time. We seek to create a container for momentum and change. Therefore, the most beneficial session frequency for you as the client moving through the Ten Series, is generally every 1-2 weeks.

If this feels challenging either financially or schedule-wise, please reach out and we can discuss.

  • My session rate is set at a sliding scale of $120-$160 per session.

Payment is due in full at the end of each session.

Accepted forms of payment include cash, card or check (payable to Kalou Eichholz).

Children’s sessions (ages 0-15) are generally 30-45 minutes and the rate is sliding scale- $75-$100 per session.

Young people ages 16 and above, are billed at the regular session rate ($120-$160) for the usual session time (75-90 min). If the rate feels prohibitive, please reach out and we can discuss a set up that feels generative for us both. I enjoy working with young people, and I want the work to feel accessible.

A note on my sliding scale: The sliding scale above reflects an integration of what is sustainable for me as a practitioner and my commitment to accessibility. Please choose a rate that reflects your current financial capacity, while allowing me to continue offering this work. Those who can afford to pay closer to the higher end of this scale help make lower rates possible for others who need them. Please choose what works for you and feel free to adjust if you need to over time.

  • For most folks who are new to Structural Integration, the Ten Series is the best place to start. And while ten sessions might sound daunting, know that you are not expected to pay for all ten upfront. The Series can also be split up into sections and worked through over a slightly longer period of time. Please ask about this option.

The Ten Series gives us the time and space to explore the unique quality of lived experience in your system, to be thorough in how we work with the strain patterns in your body, and systematic in how we guide these patterns into lasting change that can support you into the future.

You are encouraged to begin by scheduling 1-3 sessions to give yourself a chance to explore whether this modality and the practitioner are a good fit. If there is a particular project you are wanting to delve into, a minimum of 3 sessions is generally recommended.

There’s no requirement to return for Post-Ten Work, though many clients find the ongoing benefits of SI akin to receiving regular body tune-ups. Clients have the option to return for a mini 3-5 session series or standalone sessions. Each session or mini series is tailored to whatever is currently arising in your system, at a pace that feels supportive.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • There is appropriate clothing for receiving SI work, I recommend:

Flexible bottoms: Full coverage underwear (boxer briefs, briefs, or shorts like running or yoga shorts) that allow full movement and access to the pelvis and legs. No boxers please.

Fitted tops (or not, depending on your gender expression): Such as a sports bra or a tank top. No t-shirts.

Please avoid compression garments, super baggy clothing or clothing with zippered pockets.

The most important aspects about your attire are comfort and ability to allow movement.

  • I understand there may be times when you need to miss an appointment. I ask for a minimum of 24 hours to cancel or reschedule a session, and 48 hours is greatly appreciated. This allows enough time for me to be able to fill the appointment.

You can text me or use the online scheduler to cancel/reschedule your appointments. If you cancel within 24 hours, or don’t show up, I expect you to pay for the session (whatever amount you last paid).

Exceptions will be made in the case of illnesses that began within 24 hours of your session, and emergencies beyond your control. If you have an active illness in the days before your appointment, please reschedule your appointment. If you are unsure about being in a healthy state to receive a session, please reach out and we can discuss.

I will give you the same courtesy and cancel appointments if I’m feeling ill.

  • As one of my teachers once said in response to this question, “No, it doesn’t, but life hurts.”

Structural Integration has come a long way since it first gained notoriety in the late 60’s & 70’s.

We are continually learning more about the biology of change and the body’s inherent ability to adapt. Therefore the work of Dr. Rolf continues to evolve as well.

SI provides a wonderful container to develop and/or deepen our relationship to sensation in the body. What often begins as a binary (“that feels good” or “that hurts”), can quickly transform into a multi-faceted spectrum of surprising sensation in the body. We will explore this terrain together, learning to distinguish between intensity, discomfort and pain. I will check in regularly throughout each session to make sure we’re working at a depth and pace that feels supportive for you. The work does not need to hurt to be effective.

“Tension masks sensation, and sensation is the language of the body.”   - Nancy Stark Smith

  • Many folks find that having dedicated, conscious practices while they move through the Ten Series can be helpful to support the body in metabolizing the work. Movement/meditation practices can also help you notice changes in the body in new ways. Here are some examples you might explore if you don’t happen to have a practice that is already a part of your routine:

Yoga, meditation, qigong, tai chi, pilates, somatic exercises, dancing, breathwork (pranayama), walking and more.

I invite you to experiment with different modalities that spark your interest.

Perhaps the most simple and powerful practice you can adopt is bringing more awareness to your breath and your gait.

  • Greatly ignored for much of modern medicine’s history, the significance and biology of fascia is now being studied more than ever before. Ida Rolf was ahead of her time in recognizing fascia as the organ of structure in the body.

Fascia is everywhere in the body and is vital to how the body forms. Without it we would be a blobby mess of goo. It is a strong, continuous and elastic medium that contains, separates and connects all of your other tissues and organs. Fascia is a living, liquid crystal, cellular matrix comprised of water, fibrous protein (collagen), and a nebulous gel-like substance. Fascia envelopes you under the skin like a translucent body suit, and also penetrates down to the membranes that envelope your bones. The consistency of fascia can vary tremendously throughout the body depending on how it is being used. It can be thin and delicate, puffy when it contains fat cells, or very dense and thick where your body needs more reinforcement. Each cell in your body is contained within a fascial membrane.

Your muscles, organs, nerves and blood vessels are all sheathed in unique compartments of fascia. These sheaths glide and slide within you, constantly adapting to your body’s changing shape and creating strong, flexible interior architecture (structure) that allows your cells to change shape too. Your interior volumes are constantly shape shifting thanks to fascia’s elasticity- the movement of breath and digestion are all massively assisted by fascia.

Fascia is also an electrical conductor and resistor, and generates its own electricity. In Chinese Medicine, the meridians are considered to run through the fascial network in the body.

If we were able to see beneath the skin and in between tissues in the living body, no two people’s fascia would look the same. We each have a living matrix of fascia within us that is completely unique.

“Fascia is everything that isn’t a cell.”   - Thomas Myers

  • Yes, I work with people of all ages. If you would like me to work with your infant or child, and you’ve never received any of my work before, I will encourage you to schedule 1-2 sessions with me first. It’s important that you as a parent understand the work a little, as well as the resonance we create together as client and practitioner. This will create greater ease when working with your child. I ask that you be in the room for your child’s session, and I will ask your child’s permission before I touch them. If they do not want to be touched, I will respect that.

Children’s sessions (ages 0-15) are generally 30-45 minutes and my rate is sliding scale- $75-$100 per session.

“Ours is a terrestrial body. Like the big Earth is pulled toward the sun, the small earth of the body is pulled toward this planet, and while our journey is not an orbit, it is a grounding. Everything we do is predicated on the existence of gravity, and yet how often do we notice it? It is a powerful and ubiquitous force, and yet how often do we consider its power?” -Willa Blythe Baker (The Wakeful Body)
